A large plot in the midst of a dense neighbourhood of small homes presented its own set of challenges. As always, there was the developer’s long list of requirements to accommodate, but alongside that was our constant endeavour to create something more—a sequence of journeys, pauses and shared spaces that could help build a new urban community.
The site was divided into three parcels to negotiate the many regulatory constraints. This eventually led to three individual blocks, each with a slightly different expression, yet forming a cohesive whole.
Located in a predominantly middle-class neighbourhood, the project did not call for an architecture that was loud or ostentatious. The buildings are deliberately simple and understated on the outside, allowing them to sit comfortably within their surroundings. But as one moves inside, the experience changes. The three blocks open into a large internal courtyard, bringing in light, air and ventilation, with the clubhouse and pool at its heart.
We hope that, when built, the project will become more than just a collection of homes—that those who live here will find a place that is vibrant, happy and energised by the life within it.
Our quest for Hum AurHamara continues: creating homes where people do not merely live next to one another, but have opportunities to live together.
